At times our motivation is so intense, we feel we can climb Mt. Everest with no sweat. Other times we are barely motivated enough to get out of bed. How do successful church secretaries stay motivated? Simple. They have MASTERED the art of focus.

One definition of focus is concentration. It's the reason why lasers are so powerful. It's the concentrated beam that gets the job done. You must do the same thing. Maybe you've had a setback and you've lost your motivation and are unhappy with your career. Maybe you have tons of things to do and are overwhelmed at the idea of getting it all done.

Maybe you are believing God for a new house, car, peace of mind, or peace in your family. Do you settle for mediocrity and daily frustration? Do you remain content with barley keeping up and being burned out at the end of each day? Absolutely not! You have to motivate yourself and never give up on your goal. Well how do you motivate yourself? Glad you asked.

OVERLOAD YOUR SENSES - with information about your dream. If it's a certain house you want, find pictures and put them in your car, bathroom, and office. Surround yourself with what your heart desires. Keep the vision before you.

THE POWER OF ASSOCIATION - there's an old saying that "birds of a feather flock together". If you're wondering why you are in a rut, look, at the company you are keeping. Surround yourself with people who are motivated and their enthusiasm for life will undoubtedly rub off on you. Get away from gossipers and backbiters at work. Find people who are excited about what your ministry is doing and who haven't lost their fire for the vision of the ministry.

TALK TO YOURSELF - sometimes you just gotta look in the mirror and talk to yourself. There's a story in the Bible about King David. He had taken his men out to war and while they were gone, another enemy came in and took all of the women and children that were left behind captive. When David and his men returned home to see the city destroyed and their families gone they were distraught. The soldiers wanted to stone David since it was his bright idea to go to war and leave them unprotected in the first place.

David did something amazing here...he didn't get down in the dumps and start crying woe is me! He ENCOURAGED (MOTIVATED) himself. At the end of the story, you see David and his men pursuing the enemy, rescuing their families, and even getting rich off of the spoils from the battle.

There's wisdom in this for you. When things don't go like you plan, don't give up.

Don't throw in the towel.

Motivate yourself and move on.

Celebrate small victories because this will also give you motivation to keep going.

Victory is waiting just beyond your temptation to quit.

Focus on the tasks in front of you. Have one goal and pursue it with everything you've got. Pursue it with urgency and just don't quit.
