Flowers, whether it be fresh flowers or silk flower have played an important role in our lives over the centuries; they bring happiness and warmth to any dull decorating space. However, we all know that one disadvantage of flowers that are fresh is that they don't last very long.

Fortunately, there are many little things that you can do to lengthen the life span of the beautiful floral design your flower arrangements, floral bouquet and even wedding flowers and wedding flower bouquet. You should using proper flower care routines to keep the flowers from dying awfully fast and to even prolong their life span.

Make certain that your water and vase for the floral arrangement are clean before use. It is advised that you clean your vases using hydrogen peroxide. The vase should also be in proportion to the size and amount of flowers you will be using for the flower arrangement.

Once the stems of flowers have been cut, you have removed their life support system, so the flowers should be placed in the container with water as soon as possible. You should use lukewarm water in your vase because lukewarm water has lower oxygen levels that will help the stem to intake water and will in turn prompt the flowers to open faster. There is also a need to use a flower preservative or floral food in the water because it helps develop the buds to open and it could kill harmful bugs and dirt.

The stems of the flowers should be cut at an angle under water to expose fresh flower stem. Cutting them at an angle will give them more surface area to absorb nutrients through. Cutting the stems under water is important because it prevents air from getting into the veins in the stem of the flower, an air bubble in the stem would prevent the flower from getting water and nutrients.

The flowers only drink through the ends of the stems and not through the sides of the stems. For this reason, the vase or any container should not be filled right up to the top with water. Similarly, the foliage below the water line should be removed, as foliage left on stems below the water line will rot and pollute the water. Furthermore, flowers shouldn't be crowded together in a container, as too many flowers crowded together may cause the petals to become squashed and bruised.

You should remember to never place flowers in bright or overheated areas in your home. Strong heat and sunlight can cause an excess water loss and breed bacteria. You should also remove the dead leaves immediately, as they will breed bacteria, which will damage your flower. Always replace the water in the container after 2-3 days and always remember to re-cut the stem of the flowers underwater.

Remember these tips the next time you receive flowers or get flowers for your home to make your flowers last longer, remain healthier and provide you with more enjoyment. Your favorite flower shop and the online florists of the various online flower delivery services can be a good source to get additional information on caring for flowers.
