Online dating sites are popular for a very important reason - they work! Yes, rather than relying on the bar scene or singles dances, you can meet people in the comfort of your home. That is indeed good news for many. There is a flip side, however, if you dont take adequate precautions, online dating can be a dangerous thing.

No one can argue that technology has improved our lives in many ways. There could be a downside, however, when using technology to find a partner. Online dating sites are plentiful and most are quite reputable. Anyone who relies upon online dating, however, should keep the following in mind: these sites are in business to make money, period. The best sites do screen individuals, but screening is minimal at best.

Because we have become comfortable with these new modes of communication, we may also let our guards down when we should not. In the online dating community, no doubt, most people are trustworthy, but you cannot assume everyone is. Because there are dangers involved when meeting new people sight unseen, it is wise to be cautious before you meet face-to-face. By following the advice below, you can avoid disappointment and perhaps danger as well.

People Must Earn Trust - Trust is not to be given away freely; it is truly something that must be earned. You dont have to make people jump through a series of rigorous hoops in order to win a date with you. It is totally reasonable, however, to take your time learning about new people, while you build your trust level. Meeting someone in person fifteen minutes after youve chatted online is not recommended. Slow and steady wins the race. If they are interesting and worth dating today, they will remain so a week from now.

If you are balding, or bald, post pictures of yourself that reveal that some women love bald men. The same advice applies to women. Ladies, you might want to post a picture of yourself in a bikini more than 30 lbs ago. Dont do it, you dont have to, there are many men who are not looking for a skinny Minnie. You dont have to be perfect to find love, you only have to be your wonderful self.

Keep Private Details Private - Dont immediately reveal your home or work addresses or any of your phone numbers. It is recommended that single women not post pictures of their children unfortunately, there are pedophiles who troll these sites looking for easy access to little kids.

Exercise Your Rights to Privacy - Many of us are so outgoing and so trusting that we tell everything about ourselves willingly and readily. This is not a good idea when engaged in the early stages of online dating. Please do not provide your home or business addresses; do not post a picture of your home that reveals its locations. Also, keep your personal email address to yourself until you know someone fairly well. If you want to share an email address, create a new account for online dating purposes only. User names should not identify you in anyway JaneSmithFrom101Calvert Street can lead unsavory individuals directly to you.

Demand the Truth Its okay to ask how current their pictures are some people dont have recent pictures, others post old pictures to mislead you. No matter what they have stated on their profile, you might want to ask some important questions like: Are you married, separated, divorced etc. The important point here is if people are blatantly lying about something, how can you tell what other secrets they may be keeping? Some secrets can be dangerous and deserve the truth.
