Playing guitar has gained popularity over the past few years with more and more musicians willing to learn how to play guitar everyday. Before learning guitar you obviously need to buy a guitar. When buying a guitar you need to consider a few things that will become the basis of your learning process.

Depending on your wants, the type of guitar you choose will dictate how you play. You can select a guitar from three main categories. They include acoustic, classical, and electric guitars. Each has their own unique advantages and disadvantages. Once you have purchased a guitar, you will learn the basics in no time if you keep at it.

Acoustic guitar has a wooden hollow body and steel strings. No amp is needed to play it and it can be played acoustically although you can opt to use amp. Some acoustic guitars are available with pickups. All you need to do is plug-in a sound cord and start playing the guitar.

These acoustic guitars that come with pickups are called acoustic-electric guitars. If your guitar does not have pre-installed pickups you can buy a sound hole pickup at an approximate price of $60. You can also opt for other accessories as well that can help you in learning and producing different sounds.

Classical guitars have some similarities with acoustic guitars with difference of design and having nylon strings instead of steel. Generally, classical guitars are used to play classical music although they can be used to play Spanish or finger-picking music.

An electric guitar will have a body made of plastic with thin steel strings. This is the staple guitar when it comes to rock and roll. You will need an amp to play this correctly, as well as effect pedals to produce a variance in sounds.

No matter what guitar you want, always keep a few things in mind. The size of the guitar will matter depending on how big you are. You need to tailor the fretboard, neck, and other things to suit your individual needs. Only then will you feel like the guitar was made for you.

If you so choose, you can even get some accessories such as picks or a capo. This is used for changing up the keys on your guitar. It will produce unique sounds and make guitar even more fun.

You should focus on learning the guitar once you have purchased it. You can do this either through online lessons or via a DVD set. To truly master the guitar you are going to have to give it your all, whenever you have some free time to spare.
