Good news coffee drinkers! A recent study at Rutgers University found that exercise and caffeine, used together, doubled the levels of the tumor-suppressing protein "phospho-p53". Exercise alone boosted this protein by 18% and drinking two cups off coffee increased this protein by 27%.

Increasing the level of this tumor bocking protein may prevent cancer in cells damaged by the sun. This can be accomplished by drinking coffee and exercising together. You gotta like that!

"We think this points out a need for more studies to see if the combination will protect people against sunlight-induced skin cancer," said the study's Senior Researcher, Allan Conney, the Director of the Laboratory for Cancer Research at Rutgers University.

This study was a result of an interesting finding during a green tea study. It was found that decaffeinated green tea had no effect on repairing damaged skin cells, but the caffeinated green tea did.

Here is a Great Way to Combine Caffeine and Exercise for Maximum Benefits

1) Eat as little as possible 4-5 hours before your workout

2) 30 minutes before training drink two cups of coffee or 3 cups of Green Tea

3) Make sure and perform intense cardio after lifting to take advantage of caffeine's fat burning potential

See...I knew my "Double Tall Iced Americano" was doing me some good! Yeah...I live in Seattle and espresso is consumed about as much as water. Now don't think you can order all those fancy drinks with caramel, chocolate, cream, etc...you have to go plain...stick with black coffee or tea without sugar.

I have always been a big believer of drinking a calorie-free caffeinated beverage on an empty stomach to have the best fat burning workout. Little did I know that caffeine was also reducing my chances of getting skin cancer. This is great news to all coffee drinkers out there!
