Getting Fit Over 40 - It's Easier Than You Think

For many people it can be hard to get in shape when you're over 40 years old. Is it only possible to look good if you're young or famous with a lot of resources for personal trainers and chefs? Absolutely not - you can get fit over 40 as long as you go about it the right way.

If you're in your 40's, 50's or 60's you can still get in great shape. One of the best things you can do is to take up bodybuilding to improve your strength. You don't need to look like a weight lifting pro, but you'll want to look good. Every age group can benefit from lifting weights and you'll notice an immediate improvement in how you feel. You'll notice a change in how you look and how your clothes fit within a few short weeks. The health benefits can be tremendous as well.

You should also know that even a little bit of strength training can improve your sex appeal. Many forty-somethings find themselves newly single and back on the dating scene after many years of marriage. If you are recently divorced then you probably need a few workouts to get back to your best self since first impressions are key in dating, career and most other areas of your life. You'll also get an extra boost to your self-confidence through regular activity.

If you feel tired all the time, then exercise in any form is a good place to start. We all lead busy lives - if you're a working parent or a busy executive you're likely burning the candle from both ends. Exercise will give you that extra boost you need to make it through your busy day. Working out not only makes you look good, it really makes you feel good too.

When you get older you are more prone to illnesses and that can be a real drag. You're more likely to come down with the flu or get a cold when you hit a certain age. However, you can always give your immune system a boost when you decide to work out and take control of your body. You'll fight the common cold with ease and ward off all kinds of disease when you are in better condition.

For women, keeping their bones in shape is a great reason for working out. You can develop osteoporosis as you get older and this can cause many problems. When you build muscle and stay in shape, your bones will stay fitter too. Ward off osteoporosis through muscle building. As time goes by you'll be less worried about fractures and more concerned about how you spend your day - whether on the golf course, shopping or sight seeing.

You should also take care to watch what you eat and combine your efforts with an excellent workout program. You'll fight off diseases such as heart attacks and other common health problems that can affect us as we get older - all from regular workouts and healthful living.

By taking care of yourself no matter what your age, getting and staying fit over 40 will serve you well into your golden years.
