Have you ever heard the proverbial old saw about "Why A Hungry Dog Doesn't Get Fed?" The logic behind this phrase is important for you to understand right now if you really want to get back together with your ex girlfriend, boyfriend, wife or husband and you have been acting a little desperate or needy.

Think about what you would do if a hungry dog showed up at your door? No matter how sympathetic you feel towards the dog you shoo it away because you know if you feed it you will be stuck with that dog hanging around looking for a free meal and becoming a nuisance. So you pick up the phone and call the Humane Society or the Pound instead.

But what happens instead if a handsome, well fed and groomed dog with a shiny collar happens to show up at your door? You probably admire that dog, but you know it doesn't need you to feed it; it's obviously well taken care of probably just lost or wandering around checking out the neighborhood.

So you feel kind of relieved, perhaps even contemplate how nice it would be to have a dog like that. Do you get the metaphor here? You don't want to be the "needy dog" to your ex, you want to be the handsome, well taken care of dog instead.

Exhibiting needy behaviors such as calling too much or begging and pleading with your ex to take you back only makes you seem like the "needy dog" to your ex lover and this will push them away even more.

You can see this behavior will not make you the least bit attractive to your ex, but the other thing you need to understand is that people tend to want what they can't have, and if you are showing up at your ex's door all the time looking for emotional reassurance you certainly aren't that beautiful well taken care of dog that they might admire but that's just out of their reach.

You see the real secret is that people like people who like themselves, who are emotionally secure and confident and don't "need" someone else to be happy.

So if you are serious about winning back the love of your ex boyfriend, girlfriend, husband or wife, do yourself a favor and leave them alone for awhile while you get a handle on yourself and your emotions and cut loose the needy, desperate behaviors.

Then you'll be ready to start planning a SMARTER strategy to get back with your ex.
