How well are People Sleeping at your Bed & Breakfast?

Many owners of bed & breakfast businesses work hard to get all the key elements in place. They offer a great looking place both inside and out. They have great interaction with their guests and serve delicious meals. Yet they fail to focus on one important issue - helping the guests to get their rest. It can be difficult to sleep in a new location and you want to do your part to make them comfortable.

People go to a bed & breakfast location for many different reasons. Yet at the end of the day it comes down to one thing - having a great place to lie down and sleep for the night. They don't want to be tossing and turning due to your beds being uncomfortable. They don't want to be crowded in a little bed or wishing they had one more pillow to stack under their head.

Since it isn't going to be practical or cost effective to put individual heating and cooling systems in each room, you will have to take care of it for your guests. Set the thermostat at a reasonable temperature based on what the weather is like. You won't be able to keep everyone happy this way but it is a place to start. Make sure you offer plenty of soft and warm blankets in each room. This way they can cover themselves up and be cozy.

You can also offer fans in each room to help cool things down in the hotter times of the year. Many people find it is harder to sleep when they are hot than if they are cold. If your business is in an area where it is extremely humid, you should expect people to be using these fans on a regular basis when they stay with you.

Your guests likely don't know each other and they will want to have their privacy protected. They also want to know they are secure at night while they try to sleep. Each room should have a push in lock as well as a deadbolt on the inside of the door. You wouldn't expect someone to stay at a hotel without such protection so offer it for them as well.

What about the windows? They should have locks on them too. This way the guests can open them when they want some fresh air and then close them before the go to sleep. You can also offer bars on them to prevent someone from getting in. This is more of a problem on a ground floor than anywhere else. They may be used on higher levels too though to prevent people from falling out.

Are you prepared for a fire to break out while guests are sleeping? This may not be a scenario too far from the minds of some of them as they try to drift off. If they know that you have fire alarms in place the will feel better. Make sure each room has information on marked escape routes as well. Hopefully no one at your business will ever need to access it but always be prepared.

You want to be confident that your rating for a good night of sleep at your bed & breakfast is nothing short of excellent. Do all you can to make sure every single guest feels completely safe at your location. They also need to be comfortable so they can get the rest they need. This will help them to arrive at the table for a delicious breakfast with a smile on their faces the next morning.
