Juicy Couture Handbags Are for the Fun Celebrity Look

Pamela Kaist-Levy and Gela Taylor founded a maternity wear business called 'Travis Jeans' in 1994. The company would later transform itself into the celebrity fashion house called, 'Juicy Couture'.

The pair first met in a Los Angeles clothing store. Taking a bunch of old Levi jeans and $200 worth of elastic, they created their first line of maternity jeans. Melanie Griffith was soon seen wearing them and the product become hot property.

In 1999, Juicy Couture began making their trademark cloth and cashmere tracksuits, with low-riding drawstrings and zip-up hoodies. Coming in pastel colors, it was designed to show off a woman's curves with the "Juicy" printed on the rear.

They were the first tracksuits that made women feel sexy. They also enabled people to look like they just had a work out session with Madonna or Cameron Diaz. People quickly followed the celebrities, with LA street corners filled with women wearing Juicy Couture tracksuits.

By giving their clothing away for free to celebrities, Juicy Couture doesn't need to spend any money on traditional advertising with the tabloid magazines doing all the work.

Juicy was taken over by Liz Claiborne in 2003, with Skaist-Levy and Taylor remaining co-presidents of the company. The brand is now one of Claiborne's most successful.
