Waiting for a meal when you are hungry can be very hard for guests at a restaurant. Once they see the food on the plates of those around them as well as smell it, they can become even hungrier than they already are. One way to help curb their appetite as well as help them be more comfortable while they wait for their meal is to offer appetizers.

There are establishments out there that offer various appetizers to customers as a courtesy. Mexican food locations are the most common with their baskets of chips and homemade salsa for dipping. This can be a part of the meal that the guests eagerly look forward to when they come in. You may need to set limits on such free items though so guests don't take advantage.

You want to be able to offer you guests plenty of wonderful appetizers to choose from. Think about the different things you can offer including onion rings, cheese sticks, and even BBQ wings. Some people may have a hard time deciding which appetizer they want. You can have a set price for a selection of several of them. This type of sampler place is ideal for allowing customers to try out new appetizers.

The section on the menu with appetizers may get overlooked by many guests though. To help it stand out you may want to add pictures in this area. You can also have an advertisement on display at the table for various appetizers. They will be encouraged to order it when they see the picture looking back at them.

Make sure your staff understands their role in promoting the sales of appetizers as well. They can simple ask each table if they would like to order anything from that menu. You can also have competitions where you have them all promote a particular appetizer on a given night. The one that sells the most orders of it will get a great prize.

Once that order has been secured, it needs to reach the customers ASAP. There needs to be no delays in getting that food onto the table for them. They should never have to wait very long for their appetizers to arrive. If that is the case then they would have just waited for their regular meal. Some customers will decline the appetizer if it takes too long to reach their table.

Make sure they have everything they need to enjoy that part of their dining experience as well. Staff needs to be watching for signs that they need additional plates or napkins. This way they aren't sitting their staring at the food in front of them but can't eat it because something is missing from the table.

It is often a very good idea to serve appetizers at your sit down restaurant. Customers will be very happy with them, especially if they are part of the meal and at no charge. Should you have a menu of appetizers, you can be sure customers will buy them. This is a great way to increase your sales as well. It also keeps customers from thinking about their hunger until their main course arrives.
