For mac users the default browser on the mac is Safari. It is a great browser but it lacks a few of the options that make a great modern web browser. Today I will talk about one of those missing features. Automatically clearing cookies when the session ends.

Wikipedia defines cookies as."Cookies are parcels of text sent by a server to a web browser and then sent back unchanged by the browser each time it accesses that server." The purpose of these cookies is to allow website to rack their visitors. many sites require cookies o be functioning to correctly function. However advertising sites also use cookies to track visitors across multiple website and to build a profile of web user. For this reason many people like to clear their cookies on a regular basis. Firefox has a setting to clear cookies at the end of each session when you close the browser. Which protects your privacy but still lets website work as designed.

Safari does not offer this option, but with a simple change we can make it work.

1) Find your cookie file. It is located in
Users>USER NAME>Library>Cookies

2) Perform a the get Info command on this file

3) Change the files to Locked and adjust the rights on the file so only you can edit the file. You may need to enter your password.

That is it. Now Safari will keep cookies in memory while it is running but it will not save them to disk when you quit.
