NAAG: A Platform To Increase Interaction

The National Association of Attorneys General (NAAG) was formed in the year 1907. The motive behind the formation of this organization was to provide top-notch legal services in the country as well as giving a common platform for interaction between the Attorneys General from all the states and territories. It is also meant to aid these individuals and staff members in the performance of their duties.

Focusing on interagency and interstate cooperation, NAAG encourages relationships between the Attorneys General’s offices and other organizations, including law enforcement agencies as well as other legal offices. The National Association of Attorneys General also works diligently so that these agencies may be able to cross state lines to help with cases of all regards and sizes. Currently led by the Indiana Attorneys General, Steve Carter, NAAG’s executive committee features members from all fifty states as well as the District of Columbia, Puerto Rico, Northern Mariana Islands, Guam, US Virgin Islands, and American Samoa.

The office of Attorneys General is an elected position in 43 states, Governor appointment in five states, American Samoa, Puerto Rico, the U.S. Virgin Islands, and the Northern Mariana Islands, voted into office by the Legislature in Maine, a Mayoral appointment in the District of Columbia, and appointed by the state supreme court in Tennessee.

The Attorney General gets to handle lot of matters of concern in all the jurisdictions. This also proves to be an opportunity for interaction with different people at various positions within the state or territory and even neighboring areas. In order to build up on this activity amongst the Attorneys General, the National Association of Attorneys General supports the interaction of this sort.

The National Association of Attorneys General provides educational and training opportunities associated with the position to its members and aides. It encourages them to enhance their expertise in all fields such as litigation skills, leadership, and management, among others.

On the other hand, NAAG helps to educate the public about the position of Attorneys General and what role they play because many people are not aware of it. In the states where the Attorneys General are elected, the NAAG tries to promote the importance of this position.

The main office of the National Association of Attorneys General is located on Capitol Hill in the District of Columbia. This location is prime due to its proximity to government officials, Congress, governmental agencies, and the U.S. Supreme Court.
