Walkways are very important to your garden. Not only do they create a clear path for you or guests to walk through and admire the plants, but paths are necessary to give you access to remote areas of your garden to water and care for the plants. Plants would easily be trampled without a walkway.

In addition to the function of the walkway, it can also add a bit of style to your garden in how it looks. The shape of the landscape path, as well as the finishing material, can make the walkway very beautiful and unique. The most common types of finishing materials for walkways are interlocking concrete blocks and bricks. Before you create the walkway, you should lay gravel down first. After that, you can lay the blocks or bricks down with a mallet.

It is helpful to plan the walkway first with a drawing. You should map our where the plants are and figure out the best path for the walkway so you can reach the sections that are difficult to get to. To add definition to the walkway, you can plant flowers or install lights to line the edge of the path. Lights will allow you to work or enjoy your garden late into the evening, at night, or early in the morning. You do not want rain water to accumulate on the walkway, so the path should slope one way. Sitting water will bring mosquitoes and make walking difficult.

Small benches along the walkway can give you a place to sit and rest while working on the garden, or just sit and admire the beauty of your garden.

Bringing desirable wildlife to your garden is quite simple. Using plants that flower or bear fruit is a good start. Birds and butterflies will be attracted to the flowers and fruit. Adding a bird feeder or a birdbath should keep the animals coming back regularly.

To keep the birds protected from potential predators, the bird bath and bird feeder should be raised several feet from the ground. The raised birdbath should be secured to a post so the bird does not cause it to fall over. Consider making some unique looks for the birdbaths with landscape brick designs in the backyard.

An additional way to create a sanctuary for birds is to plant dense hedges. The birds will love this area to create their nests, assuring you that they will return for a long time.

If there is wildlife visiting your garden, you must use only non-toxic pesticides, if you use any at all. Keeping the bird feeder and bath clean will also help to prevent the birds from getting diseases from dirty water.
