Growing your own herbs is on the increase in home gardening and some of the reasons for this are the obvious joy that can be had from a successful herb garden and the tasty results in your cooking. All this only encourages you as a home gardener to grow more and more herbs and keep collecting favorable comments on your recipes.

One major benefit of growing your own herbs is saving money. Fresh herbs can be ridiculously expensive, with a single small container of fresh herbs sometimes costing $3 to $5 in many supermarkets!

If you would like to make use of fresh herbs in your recipes, then growing your own from seed is the way to go. For less than 2 dollars you'll get a large pack of seed and be able to grow lots of plants that will keep you in fresh herbs for a long time. If you're already a home gardener, then you won't need anything extra to grow your herbs. Even if you're not, the cost of a few tools and some fertilizer will still save you money and you'll only have to buy the tools once.

Add to that the amount of stress relief that normal gardening gives with the bonus of the aromatherapy benefits from herbs and you can't lose.

Another great thing about herbs is their adaptability, you can grow them just about anywhere. They're easy to grow and don't need a great deal of looking after once established. A lot of people that have limited space grow their herbs in containers very successfully, this has the added advantage of making them easy to move around.

If you're looking for some attractive ornamental plants for accent planting around your garden, then most herbs can be used for this decorative purpose. Most herbs are extremely attractive and add another dimension to your garden design.

Your fresh herbs will come to the rescue of your family dinners, you'll not hear the word "boring" from your kids again. Your meals will become the focal point of favorable comments and be looked forward to with relish.

Herbs don't only look and taste good, they're also very good for your health! They contain a lot of antioxidants, vitamins and minerals that are essential to a healthy diet.

Like any well maintained garden, a simple but attractive herb garden will add value to your home. It creates a good selling point should you ever decide to put your house on the market.

Very often the only way to taste the flavors of some exotic herbs is to grow your own. Your local grocery store is only likely to have the standard herbs at inflated prices and you won't find some of the more unusual varieties. Sure you'll find herbs like basil, mint or chives, but you won't find fresh chervil, garlic chives or purple basil so easily.

Plus, growing herbs can also make you more popular. A lot of people really love fresh herbs, and if you neighbors hear you're growing them, they might stop by and ask for some! Your friends and family will be delighted to be given fresh herbs as a gift, and they'll be wanting to hang around you for more handouts as often as they can!
