To stop puppy biting, there is one word you must use: No. This is the correct command to use for any kind of behavior correction in regard to your puppy. When your puppy tries to chew on your sneakers, say no. If your puppy has learned this word, a firm no will prevent them from biting, as well as jumping all over people when he or she ought not to.

Your puppy must learn the word no as early as possible. This is the best word to use for correction, and if you teach them at an early age, they will always listen to it. Again, if you see your puppy chewing on something they are not allowed to chew, a firm "no!" is called for. If the word alone fails to stop their behavior, then tap them under the chin while repeating "no!".

If this also fails to stop the undesirable behavior, stringer measures must be brought into play. Take some time to watch animals interacting with each other. They do not of course speak as such and thus do not tell each other what to do or not do. Animals instead use growling, bumping and posturing as deterrents. The encourage behavior via their facial expressions and vocalizing. When these fail for animals, they will resort to fighting.

Puppies learn how to behave by watching the pack. Your puppy is no different, except that their "pack" consists of your family! You must step in and take the part of pack leader. Just as in the wild, if a member of the pack steps out of line, the pack leader will correct the behavior; so should you.

Stay calm, cool & composed You must not lose your composure when trying to stop puppy biting or other bad behavior on the part of your puppy. No matter how angry you are at your puppy, DO NOT show it. Frightening your puppy will not work to correct their behavior. You want to teach them "don't do what you are doing", not make them afraid of you. Your puppy will learn, especially if you can keep your cool. Don't intimidate your pet, just be firm and they will soon learn their place and which behaviors are expected of them.

Correct immediately. You must correct your puppy immediately. A puppy does not have much sense of recall. Hence if you correct him after a lapse of some time, he will just not be able to fathom what you are trying to tell him. In order to stop puppy biting, correction that is not done immediately will only confuse him and leave him feeling totally perplexed. Puppies bite by instinct. But this instinctive reaction left unchecked can turn into a very nasty habit. You must nip it in the bud. Your puppy must be made to realize that he must not bite humans. It will just not be tolerated. Correct him even when he gives you those playful little puppy bites.

Use the same sort of corrective discipline in order to stop puppy biting or when he jumps up at people. Jumping up in jest might appear to be cute in a little puppy. But just think of the consequences if an adult German shepherd or Saint Bernard were to jump up on you. It could jeopardize your very safety! So when your puppy jumps up at you, say 'No' and push him gently to the floor. When he does listen go you, praise him generously in order to reinforce his behavior.

Knowing the right way to train your puppy will make the entire process much easier for you and your puppy both.
