I believe there are nearly as many people who have an opinion on what is a good and and bad diet as there are people who buy the never ending stream of new diets being released. I decided a different approach was needed not to tell you what you should eat but instead give you 7 things you should not do when eating and planing a diet for longevity.

1.Eat more natural foods:- or if you prefer to think of it this way foods which grow and are not manufactured which are sinful.I always believe very few people end up eating wrongly if they eat natural foods in other words if it grows naturally and eaten in moderation and it's cooked properly or even better eaten raw it will be good for you or if fried bad for you. This includes fruits, and vegetables but also meats even those which are seen as wrong by most diets. As they say everything is fine in moderation in excess it's a sin.

2.Eat little and often do not stuff yourself: - Your digestive system is designed to digest food slowly so the bigger your meals the longer it takes to digest it is healthy to snack with the right foods between meals. In fact five well spaced out meals a day is much healthier and will help you live longer.

3. Avoid foods which are refined:- When you suffer contipation, or bloating most often this will be due to eating refined foods. You need adequate amounts of fiber in your diet to remain regular. A happy bowel is a happy body as it can allow you get rid of any unwanted toxins and harmful substances.

Avoid not drinking enough water:- If you have never heard this before I'm shocked. Our bodies thrive on water and suffer if they don't get enough. When we eat the wrong sorts of foods or drink alcohol we become dehydrated and our body needs to rehydrate. By drinking plenty of water we also flush the kidneys which helps the body naturally remove toxins and other noxious substances.

5.Use good fats and not bad fats: Not every one knows the difference so here is very simple but not fool proof method to check if fat is good or bad. If a fat comes from an animal it is not as good for you as fat from a plant. Ie butter is higher in saturated fat (bad) the olive spread (good). IMPORTANT: All fat will make you get fat so always think of using fat in moderation regardless of it's origin.

6. Avoid a diet high in one food group only: - Many people are tempted to have a diet for example that contains no fat (which is hardly possible) or in excess in protein such as Atkins. No safe diet long term works unless it contains a balance of carbs, protein and fats and also needs an adequate amount of fiber. So if you going to eat a meal make sure you balance the amounts of protein and fat and carbs and you won't go far wrong. Consider just as much how you prepare food as you do what you are actually eating.

7.Prevent sugar highs and sugar lows:- You can harm your body with sugar high and lows. These are refered to as hypoglycemia. Many people believe this is just a problem for diabetics, but it known that these constant dramatic changes in blood sugar can lead to serious health problems including aging the body faster. This can be quite easily prevented by combining foods which are fast release with foods which take longer to breakdown by the body.

Few people actually understand how their diet and even how they eat and prepare food can shorten or indeed lengthen the time our bodies will last but by watching what we eat we can even reduce the aging process.
