It would be a cliche to say that sexy lingerie is the gift that "gives to both him and her", or "it's the gift that keeps on giving". Clearly a man can't lose when he gives lingerie as a gift. The only time this plan might backfire is when he gives something in the wrong style, or worse, the wrong size. But if a man puts time and consideration into his purchase, both are rewarded which is why sexy lingerie can make a great gift.

Most of the time men are tempted to buy what they find sexy only to be surprised when their girlfriend of wife doesn't like the lingerie and refuses to wear it. As an example, it takes a special type of woman to be comfortable wearing a thong. Yet, men continue to rely on what they desire when making these purchases only to realize what they desire is in total conflict with what their partner desires.

Consider this; thong sales account for approximately 20% of lingerie purchases which means it's very possible that a woman may not appreciate a thong as a gift as much as the man giving it.

If you want your gift selection to be successful, you need to do your homework. Ask yourself what part of her body is she most proud of? Whatever this body part is, a good rule of thumb is to buy lingerie that will flatter and accentuate that body part. If a woman is particularly proud of her cleavage as example, a halter might be the best way to go. If she is more proud of her legs, then a chemise might be the best idea. No matter what part or parts of her body she is most proud of, don't despair men. There is lingerie out there that will flatter every part of a woman's body.

Women are very color concious so you need to consider this when deciding on your gift also. Some things to think about are hair colors and skin tones. Redheads look best in darker colors that compliment their hair color. Greens and blues work best for that. Blondes look best in lighter colors or even pastels. Brunettes look best in colors that accentuate their darker hues. Colors like purples, dark greens or even reds work well for them.

Obviously, the lingerie needs to look great, but just as important, it needs to feel great. If you enjoy touching it, she probably will enjoy wearing it too. Satins and silks are always a great choice. Silks and satins are always great choices as they are always smooth to the touch and will feel great on her. If your buying your gifts online, I recommend only buying fabrics you are familiar with. That way you know what to expect as well.

You can buy the right style, the right color and fabric, but all of this will be for nothing if you get the wrong size. Don't rely on your 'calibrated eyesight' to determine what you think is the right size. There are too many jokes about men trying to size up their partner's cup size by using their hands to cup imaginary breasts. Whether your shopping online or at a brick and mortar store, it's paramount that you know the sizes of the lingerie before ever thinking about styles or colors. If it's possible, ask. If not, sneak a peak at her lingerie while she is in the shower or out shopping. No matter how you do it, make sure you get the sizes right or it will come back to haunt you.

One of the most intimate and rewarding Christmas gifts a man can give is lingerie. When you do your homework and consider the styles, colors and sizes when purchasing lingerie as a gift, it will be very rewarding to you as the giver as well as to her. BUt if you don't do your homework and consider these things, your gift idea will most likely backfire on you. Follow these simple rules and you both will have a very mery Christmas with many happy returns!
