Recently the cost of gasoline has gotten entirely ridiculous. We do have choices. Are you tired of ridiculously high gas prices? Is there anything the average person can do? Are you sick of just whining about it? Do you think somebody should do something? Do you wish you could cry every time you buy gasoline? Are you ready to do something about it?

Why are gas prices so high? Supply and demand is the obvious answer. Demand is increasing faster than supply is increasing because of world wide pressure for fossil fuels It would appear the age of affordable fossil fuels and gas are gone forever.

The justification is open for debate, but The USA has declined to produce and refine more oil. It is senseless for the vast majority of Americans to feel this agony every time they go to the gas pumps. Yes, everyone understands that there will be environmental consequences for oil drilling and new refineries. But the impact to the ""ice turtle must be balanced with the detriment to our economy. It is disgraceful for America to have the assets to reduce foreign oil dependence and opt to do nothing.

What can you do about high gas prices? Call every elected official you can find a phone number for. Demand they explain exactly why gas prices are so high. Ask them why the US hasn't constructed a new refinery in 30 years. Ask them why they don't support drilling in ANWR. Other than putting up an oil rig in your yard, this is the only thing you can do to affect supply.

So, why are gas prices so high? This is what you really can do all by yourself to make an impact on demand. However, if you want a change, you'll have to change. Just a few years ago driving an car required more than just turning a key and driving. You had to change your own flat. You had to adjust the choke for instance. You had to check the oil every week. You didn't have cruise.

What does this have to do with high gas prices? You need to be prepared for the price of saving up to 80% on your fuel costs. Eventually auto manufacturers will develop alternative energy vehicles in 15 to 30 years. You can wait, and continue paying $3.50 a gallon for gasoline, or you can do something else NOW.

Alternative energy is not new. People have been using power from nature from the beginning. Think water mill, horses, oxen, dogs, wood, whale blubber, wind mills, and fire. As a means of moving people and cargo these all fall short of the mark, especially when you already own a automobile.

Now it is possible to burn hydrogen gas extracted from water, on an as needed basis, mix it with gasoline, ignite it in your engine, and increase your efficiency. You can build a contraption from everyday items for under $60 that will accomplish this. It will take you a late evening with simple tools to make, and under an hour to install it. The rub is, you will have to maintain it, which might take a half hour a month. Are you willing to give up your time to save $1 to $1.50 on every gallon of gas you buy?

Why are gas prices so high? They don't have to be.
