The price of gasoline has gotten totally ridiculous recently. We do have choices. Given, some of these things will give you a headache, however some are useful. None are simple, but the more we work together, the more we will accomplish.

Why are gas prices so high? The obvious answer is supply and demand. Supply is not enlarging because of global pressure for fossil fuels as fast as demand is enlarging. Unfortunately the time of cheap fossil fuels and gas are leaving us forever.

The justification is open for debate, but America has chosen not to produce and refine more oil. It is senseless for so many Americans to feel this agony every time they go to the gas stations. Yes, everyone understands that there will be environmental consequences for oil drilling and new refineries. But the impact to the ""white snow polliwog must be evaluated with the damage to our economy. It is disgraceful for the USA to have the assets to reduce foreign oil dependence and decide to do nothing.

What can you do about high gas prices? Call every elected official you can find a phone number for. Ask them to explain exactly why gas prices are so high. Ask them why America hasn't built a new refinery in 30 years. Ask them why they don't support drilling in ANWR. Other than drilling for oil in your yard, this is the all you can do to affect supply.

So, why are gas prices so high? You can do something all by yourself to change demand. However, it is dressed up in overalls and resembles work. Not so long ago driving an automobile required more than just starting it up and going. You had to change your own flat. You had to adjust the choke for instance. You had to check the oil every week. You didn't have cruise.

What does this have to do with high gas prices? You need to be prepared for the price of doubling your gas mileage Eventually the automotive industry will develop alternative powered vehicles when they have no choice. You can wait, and pay whatever big oil companies tell you to pay for gasoline, or you can do something else NOW.

Alternative energy is not new. The world has been using power from nature forever. Think water mill, horses, oxen, dogs, wood, whale blubber, wind mills, and fire. As a means of transportation these all are not the best alternative, especially when you already own a car.

There is a device you can build from commonplace materials for under $60 that will save money on gasoline. It will burn hydrogen gas from water, on an as needed basis. It then mixes the hydrogen with gasoline in your motor where it is safely ignited, resulting in more efficient use of gasoline. Using simple tools to assemble the contraption it will take you an afternoon to complete, and less than an hour to install. The catch is you will have to maintain it, could possible take as long as 30 minutes every month. Is six hours per year a fair trade for half off gas?

Why are gas prices so high? They don't have to be.
